Looking Ahead for 2019. Your Level Up Year.
I'm excited for 2019! Each New Year brings an opportunity for reflection, to implement new ideas for change, and simply a chance to start new. With new levels of motivation that kick in on that magical day of the year, there is so much potential for greatness. As a teacher, I am always looking for ways to "level up". How can I be a better instructor? How can I increase my impact? How can I help other instructors? How do I leave my mark? As the New Year kicks around, all of these questions and thoughts overwhelmingly come back to mind.
Well, it's good to know, that I didn't need January 1st, 2019 to start my level up year. I started the day I started teaching. However, teaching can be so demanding that it is so easy to get consumed and lost in the everyday, that you forget your purpose. I aspire to do so many things while simultaneously being an instructor. I refuse to come to work everyday and just teach. Hence, why I travel so often. But I want to do more than just teach. More than just travel. The great thing about being a teacher is that there is so much time if used efficiently, to work on personal projects! My official work day ends at 2:30 like most teachers. I don't take work home and I do not do any extra work, like grading beyond those hours, unless I'm getting paid. I stick to a grading schedule, getting all my grading done during my prep periods. I take my time off the clock very serious! But for 2019, I want to use this time preciously. This is the time I want to use to level up! While, I'm still figuring out all the things I'm purposely planted for, it has been on my heart to teach abroad. While there are so many different things including lifestyle, marriage, finances, etc. that can get in the way of that, I know that all things are possible. I am praying for this opportunity and I'd love your prayers too!
Aside from aspirations to teach abroad, I also aspired to share my journey as an instructor. In October 2018, I started my store All Things Teach Rm 321 through TpT to share some of the resources I use that has been super helpful in my classroom and has helped me become an effective instructor. I also share video clips of myself teaching on my Instagram. The response has been great. I love that I can help people. The feeling is awesome and it also validates you and all the hard work you do everyday! My goal is to continue on this journey of sharing and learning, and hopefully taking it international!
I'm curious to know what aspirations do you have for 2019? What changes do you want to make personally and/or professionally?
